Romanos, monk, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 36 mm, 29.72 g, 12 h). MHP ΘV Half-length figure of the Mother of God 'Hagiosoritissa', nimbate, standing right, both hands raised in supplication; in upper right field, hand of God. Rev. ΘKЄ R,Θ, / TⲰ CⲰ Δ૪, / PⲰMANⲰ / MONAX, in four lines; above and below, decorations. A rare and dramatic overstrike on a much larger undertype. Good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The obverse shows the top of the nimbate head of the saint that appeared on the obverse of the undertype. To the left, 'O AΓIOC' can be discerned. Unfortunately, the name, rank and office of the undertype seal's owner, which appeared on the other side, are obliterated.
